Sharing
Shared Claude conversations and Artifacts on Google
In July 2026 users reported that shared Claude conversations and Artifacts were appearing in Google's search results. VentureBeat could verify the Artifacts; Anthropic said the links cannot be guessed.
On 25 July 2026 a user wrote on a Claude forum on Reddit that a targeted Google search turned up shared Claude conversations. The next day, similar reports about Artifacts spread on social media. Artifacts are apps, dashboards and documents made with Claude that can be shared by link.
According to these reports, the results included legal questions, CVs, internal business discussions and conversations about creating cryptocurrency wallets; some users said they had seen wallet details and Social Security numbers. VentureBeat found several Artifacts on Google that had not been shared with it, and they opened without logging in. It could not open any shared conversations, however, and could not verify how much content had become reachable this way. Many of the results soon disappeared.
In Claude, sharing is not on by default: users have to choose it, and the app warns them over several steps that anyone with the link can open it. Anthropic said it does not give chat directories or sitemaps to search engines, and that shared links cannot be guessed or found unless people share them publicly themselves. It added that publicly shared content may be archived by third parties. Google said search engines do not decide which pages are public, and that the URLs may have been posted on social media or forums. Private conversations that had not been shared were not affected.
What can we learn from it?
Sharing with “anyone with the link” is public in practice: the link can be passed on, archived or indexed, and that is hard to undo afterwards. The chatbot itself can still be used with confidence; sharing and published Artifacts are best kept for material not tied to a client. In Confiella's copy mode only the confirmed, pseudonymised request goes into your own Claude subscription. It is a good habit to review and revoke old shares from time to time; in Claude this is done in the privacy section of the settings.
